Are you prepared for an earthquake?
“Scientists say it’s not a matter of if, just when” The Desert Sun, 6-15-08
A group of neighbors banded together as volunteers and developed a plan for Sunrise Racquet Club residents to help prevent panic and chaos in the event of an emergency such as an earthquake. They named their effort “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”
Several assisting with this coordination are “graduates” of the City of Palm Springs Certified Emergency Response Training (CERT). The recommendations and the plan are not offered in any official capacity nor is it an official plan of the HOA or HOA Board of Directors.
Each household must plan and prepare for its own needs, such as water, food, clothing, medicines, etc. No central supply or source of these items exists. Professional emergency personnel state that each household should be prepared to survive at least two weeks without outside help. To be safe, they recommend planning for an additional week.
